Details: Monarch of the land of Rohan, King Theoden was a courageous leader and soldier. Even so, the slithering machinations of his servant Grima Wormtongue allows the fallen wizard Saruman to subvert and poison the king's mind, for a time plunging Rohan into darkness and despair. With the intervention of Gandalf, Theoden was exorcised of the dark wizard's influence, restored to health and soundness of spirit.
